The parade is canceled, but charitable giving is not. During the centennial celebration of the Texas Cavaliers, the organization made history once again with a parade cancellation due to weather – only the second one in 81 years.
“It is with deep disappointment that the Texas Cavaliers announce the cancellation of the 81st Annual River Parade,” said 2026 Parade Marshal Alcide Longoria. “Out of an abundance of caution, the City of San Antonio has issued a cancellation order, and we fully respect and support this decision.
Despite this setback, we are proud to share that this year’s efforts have successfully raised more than $3 million for children’s charities across our community. That impact is here to stay. Our mission to support and uplift the children of San Antonio continues, and we are grateful for the generosity and support that made this possible. We appreciate the understanding of our community and look forward to celebrating together again in the future.”
The parade has only been canceled one other time — in 2001 due to rain. However, it is interesting to note that the Texas Cavaliers had another significant weather issue exactly 100 years ago.
The very first Tournament of Roses — the debut event for the Texas Cavaliers organization — was set to kick off on April 20, 1926. However, the event wasn’t able to go on as scheduled due to — you guessed it — rain.
“The safety and well-being of our participants, guests, volunteers, and the broader community remain our highest priority, Longoria said. “While every detail had been thoughtfully prepared and the event was ready to proceed, this decision is ultimately beyond our control. We are committed to adhering to all city directives and safety regulations. And we’re grateful for the support of the community as we continue to bring light to these charitable organizations in our city.”
